Coralife Biocube 29 lighting with corals

Hey, So I am new to salt water/coral tanks. I have a biocube 29 and am really eager to get some coral in the tank. My worry is the stock lighting. I am wondering if anyone could tell me how decent the biocube stock lighting is and what kind of coral I could put under it. I only have the standard lighting, yet I know their is room for 4 more LED strips if need be. Would love some assistance and knowledge for this department.

Thanks :)

What a Beautiful Tank and Wait, NO SKIMMER?

OK, so what are people's thoughts on this. Here is a pro in the field with a beautiful large tank and he decided for now not go with a skimmer. What is the odds this tank thrives without one. Can it be done on a tank of this size without doing large water changes often or will he need to change out a ton of water weekly.

I think that was a very shocking reveal of this tank.

Slower paced Saturday

Just past midnight, and glad to be home.

Got a greenhouse that needs finishing, some yahd work and other hunnydos. Life as a Road Warrior lends a whole new level of appreciation for time at home.

Need to reproduce that phalanx of monitors and stuff at home for next week as well. Lot of number crunching for a few days that my project manager refers to as "making sausage".

My new camera came, so time to test drive that as well. Hopefully all the antelope, golden eagles and other critters will be out now that I can finally get some photos.

Put coffee on for the early risers.

CONTINUOUS water changing system

After reading about Neptune's newest gadget, the Apex DOS dosing pump, which has two pumps in a single device..... it talks about using it as a continuous water changing system where one pump, pumps OUT water at a certain rate.....and the second pump, pumps IN freshly made SW being held in a container. And this is all done continuous 24/7.

This idea of a continuous water changing system is fascinating to me.

I wonder if one could do the same thing using small pumps the force both OUT and IN saltwater thru a 1/4in waterline (?). Either have each end with drip valves..... or run them effluent and controlled by Apex with manual on/off commands.

Has anyone devised a continuous water changing system? Please share...

Need protein skimmer suggestions for 180

Well we really need to get a new skimmer and I've been shopping around.

Current fish.
Blue tang ~5-6"
Naso tang ~6"
Trigger ~4-5"
Porcupine puffer ~6"
Zebra moray ~2' ft

We measured our sump area and its only ~9.5"x15" or so. Which doesn't give us much room to work with.

We were looking at the reef octopus skimmers because they seem to be the most recommended. The Sro 2000 looks to be the right footprint but I'm not sure its really big enough to handle our tank.

We could do an external unit but Id much rather have it in the sump (scared of leaks)
But it is an option if we have to go that route.
At the moment we have two bulkheads on the sump for two velocity t3's
We could swap the pumps for one larger pump and run the skimmer on the other bulkhead (again this is a last resort)

Any recomendations on a decent COST EFFECTIVE skimmer? Honostly it looks like we'll be paying half of what we paid for the complete tank/setup as we will be for the skimmer! Lol

Thanks in advanced.

Moving Sale

With work, kids and school I have not had time to set an other tank up and plan on living in an RV for the next 3 years starting in the fall. I am cleaning out my "fish closet" and putting things up for sale.

I have a barely used 48" Tek Light T5 6 lamp model 960040 with stand brackets - No rust, salt, build up or damage of any kind to this unit - used for 6 months tops. Just like new $150.

Orbit-30"-2x65watt with moon light- Works great, comes with 2 new bulbs still in the boxes ($50 value). Light fixture with working bulbs and new set of bulbs in boxes Good used condition, still alot of life left in it. Would work on top of a 29 gallon tank $50.

Eheim Jager 300 W Aquarium Heater - Use only a couple of times to warm salt water for water changes. Originally $56.59 - Yours for $25

Maxijet 1200 with 20 feet of clear, aquarium safe hose. This has been for aquarium use only. Makes water changes a snap! $10.
