Switching To SPS Reef, Light Questions

I am switching to SPS reef and am thinking that every really nice SPS reef tank I see is lit by MH. Am I going to have a problem using AI Hydra 26's For my SPS Tank? Will I not see the growth I need?



I have a 220g Tank



I know nothing about MH and the last thing I want is to spend 600$ a year on MH bulbs and t5ho bulbs...what do we do in this situation?

Candy Cain Coral got stung

I just transferred everything from my 55 gallon to my 90 Gallon tank and it's day three. Everything seems to be doing just fine. This morning I woke up and checked the tank and noticed that my Candy Cain Coral had some damage on the one side. I also noticed that the sweeper tentacles on the Closed Brain coral where touching the Candy Cain Coral. I am assuming that the Candy Cain got stung last night. I thought that I had them far enough apart, but I guess not. Will a Candy Cain Coral Repair itself or is it done for?

Weird algae bloom...not sure why

I have a 270g system that has never had algae before and now I am suddenly getting a lot of green film algae on the glass. What could be going on. It is the only algae I am seeing and I have to remove it every day from the glass. I have never had this issue and the only thing changed is I added a 30g frag tank to the system however it was starting to do it before I ever did that.



There are no new fish and I have done about 150g in water changes in the last 2 weeks (Was getting my alk down)



I tossed some GFO in the reactor 2 days ago but that hasnt helped yet.



My only thought was maybe my sandbed finally got fully loaded with all it can handle. I am planning on removing the sand bed over the next 2-3 weeks.



Edit: When it started was actually after I turned my lighting down. I was running my AI Hydras at 100% and dropped them down to 80% and that is about the same time this started happening.

Help with gph in sump?

Hello im new to reef tanks so i need a little help in deciding how much gph to go threw my 20 gallon long sump. The sump well have three compartments skimmer, refugium and return pump. Basically im trying to understand if the return gph would depend on display tank size or protein skimmer specs. I already bought a reef octopus 150 sss and i plan to buy the return pump soon but i cant decide on Eheim 1262 or Eheim 1260 I have 5' of head loss for the return? The display tank is a aqueon 90 gallon reef ready with internal megaflow box which i believe is rated for 660 gph. Any help would be appreciated!
