How to Set Up a Refugium Inside Your Sump

Trigger Systems Sumps: Powerhouse Filter Boxes for Your Reef Tank

Background

I'm looking to do a DIY background for my tank. I did a bit of research and found two backgrounds that looked pretty good.

Really just a coincidence that they're from the same website.

I'm a little concerned about the second one in a reef aquarium as I don't know if i would be safe. Has anybody done this sort of thing? I would like to know how challenging this sort of thing is as I'm not artistically inclined. If so what did you do and how does it look (pictures would be great :D)?

DyMiCo filtration ?

Hello.

I came across this article: http://ift.tt/1PQdT0k

It describes an alternative filtration system called DyMiCo (Dynamic Mineral Control). It claims that it replaced skimmers and eliminates all bad side effect of a skimmer as a plankton killer.

There is a web site http://www.dymico.com/ which says they are working on the filter suitable for home aquarium.

Does anybody know anything about this method and can comment ?

Thanks !

New BTA completely in rock?

So I purchased a slightly bleached BTA (LFS said it was from shipping) on Saturday. Day one was great, he looked lovely and bubbled up. Day. 2 he moved a few inches and slightly deflated but still seemed happy. Came home and he was really deflated, and almost completely in the rock. Decided to see if I could coax him out with food. He took the small piece of shrimp and promptly and quickly moved completely into the rock. He has yet to come back out. Is this normal for a new BTA? Thanks in advance :)

Protein Skimmer Issues

Hello,

I am having an issue with my protein skimmer. I have read a ton of forums and post regarding this issue but nothing seems to work. I run my skimmer and everything works great for a few hours. The foam builds up but once it starts to overflow into the cup, it suddenly drops to no foam at all. It used to run great and is a little over a year old. It has been cleaned and well maintained.

I have tried to adjust the water level to bottom of the cone, mid way and at the top. I do have nitrates in the water and a reactor so there should be sufficient material to remove.

Any suggestions on why this would be happening?
