I'm so confused

So I've had cyano for the past few months and it's been a constant battle. The cyano seemed like it was finally getting under control until yesterday when I did a 25% water change. Now the cyano is back and stronger then it's been in a while.



TDS reads 0 and my hanna phosphate checker reads 0 as well. Why would a water change cause a cyano outbreak to get worse? In theory it should make it better. Anyone have any ideas?

40 dollar sump?

Would you spend fourty dollars on this sump? My system is not hard plumped it will be used with an HOB overflow. this is a 30 gallon sump















Need advice before I go drive an hour and a half for this.

Newbie question on lighting

my plans are to only have "easy" Soft corals in my 75 gl. this is my first Saltwater tank so plan to just get my feet wet. I have a 48" T5 Light Fixture with the ability to hold 2 - Bulbs.

it is my understanding that these Soft "beginner Type" Corals require much less intense lighting than a full blown Reef system does.



My question - will this Fixture be enough and which 2 bulbs would be the best to have??

Well I've had my royal gramma for 8 days noW he eats every time food is put in the tank. But yesturday I noticed a silver spot right where his butt is or where they poop. It's on the bottom of the middle where his colors match. I can't get a picture as he doesn't stay still long enough. And you can barley see it. Just a small silver spot I can't remember if I see it there when I had him or not. Maybe it's normal cause he seems perfectly fine. Swims around. Hides though when he sees my shadow coming though lol. But thought I would ask see if anyone had any ideas

Old Salt Water Disposal

For years I have been dumping my old salt water over the bank outside since I have a septic tank and leech field. I have been doing this as I did not think salt water was good for a septic tank. Does anyone know if my thought is correct? Would the accumulation of salt water over time harm a septic tank and/or drain field? Would much prefer to simply dump in the toilet, especially during the winter months.

Nitrites in RO? What to do?

Was doing some testing on my RO water and found like 2 to 3 PPM of nitrites! Flushed the membrane, drained the head tank and flushed it. Did some testing after that and back to 0 PPM. I let the system fill the head tank and sit over night. The next morning it tested .5 PPM of Nitrites. That made me think something was going on in the head tank. The tank has been in service for about 4 years. So, I ordered a new head tank. Tank arrived and I flushed every thing again and installed the new tank. While filling the system I tested 0 PPM. Let it sit over night and I got .5 PPM nitrite again. When I isolate the tank and test the water coming right out of the RO I get 0 PPM. This is a 5 stage filter array. All filters about 3 months old. RO membrane about 1.5 years old. I would hate to replace all filters and membrane just to get nitrites again. My tap water tests at 0 PPM. Any ideas or how to eliminate? The RO TDS is around 15. I am using an API freshwater master kit. Nitrite bottle is good until 02/2019. We use this system for drinking and WAS using for my SW tank.
